Our vision is to ensure that Surrey is an active county, well-connected and working as one. Following the award of a major new commission, we are looking for high-calibre candidates to join our dynamic team and play a significant role in increasing opportunities for young people to take part in sport and physical activity. We are looking for four School Games Organisers for fixed-term contracts until 30 September 2013, 36 hours per week. The School Games is an exciting new opportunity to increase both the quality and quantity of competitive school sport opportunities for young people, through a four-tiered structure of competition. Starting this autumn, around 30 sports will be available, specifically designed to get young people of all abilities competing at intra-school and inter-school level and culminating in local, regional and national events. Working closely with key partners including schools, local authorities and clubs in a specified quadrant of the county, each School Games Organiser will develop an effective and sustainable delivery structure in order to provide opportunities for all young people within Surrey schools to engage in appropriate competition as participants, officials and volunteers as part of the National School Games framework. To be effective in these roles you should have excellent communication and organisational skills, significant experience of working in a school or community sports development environment and a clear understanding of how to engage with school staff and pupils. Active Surrey is funded by Sport England and other partners and is hosted within the Children’s, Schools & Families Directorate of Surrey County Council (SCC). These SCC appointments, directly accountable to the Youth Sports Development Manager, are based in Woking but will require extensive travel around the county. SCC offers an excellent package including membership of the local government pension scheme and the SCC flex-benefits scheme.
